We always care for your teeth before cavities get too large and out of proportion; if they are left untreated, they can cause severe abscess, pain, and swelling of the face.
You may not have any symptoms if you have small cavities, but large cavities can cause toothache, tooth sensitivity, discoloration of teeth, visible holes in your teeth, and pain when chewing.
It is important to get your teeth checked at least every 6 months at The Ranch Dental Centre in order to check for any possible new cavity before it enlarges.
The Ranch Dental Centre advises routine checkups and cleanings at least every six months for most of the patients. This is one of the simplest but most crucial procedures that we do in order to maintain and promote your oral health. During a checkup, usually we take a couple of X-ray images of your mouth, check your gum health, and check for tartar deposits on your teeth. We also check for any specific areas of concern including cavities or damaged restorations. Every checkup includes oral cancer screening, head and neck exam, joint exam, and lymph node exam as well as checking for any abnormalities that might show on the X-rays.
Our dental hygienists will remove dental plaque and tartar using special dental tools; they also use a gritty toothpaste to polish teeth and remove stains; Fluoride therapy is usually performed at the end of the appointment to strengthen your teeth.
For younger patients, your dentist might recommend sealants to prevent cavities.
Please feel free to ask your hygienist regarding your questions.
Oral hygiene instructions are also a very good way to know about how you can improve homecare.
A bridge is a fixed dental restoration used to replace one or more missing teeth by joining an artificial tooth definitively to its adjacent teeth.
The process for crowns and bridges usually completes in two sessions. First, we prepare your dentition to receive a crown or a bridge; we create an impression to make a model in the lab and fabricate your prosthesis. After a week, we receive the finished product from the lab; we also sit the crown to check for the fit and the bite. After a successful try-in, your crown can be permanently cemented.
Sometimes tooth removal can be your only option to save you from pain and discomfort and promotes your health. Extractions are indicated when 1) the tooth is irreversibly decayed and cannot be restored 2) severely traumatized and cannot be restored after an accident 3) some impacted wisdom teeth 4)due to severe crowding and malocclusion 5) or if the tooth is highly mobile and hopeless due to gum tissue disease.
Dentists always check your medical history and medications before every dental procedure, especially extractions in order to make sure you do not carry an excessive risk for either bleeding or infection. There are different surgical techniques that can be used by your dentist to assure your safety and well-being.
Please do not hesitate to tell your dentist if there is anything that bothers you or makes you a bit anxious during the surgical procedures; our mission is to help you, and to make sure you have a very relaxing appointment.
Our dentists at The Ranch Dental Centre located in Strathmore identify patients who excessively grind their teeth during your checkups and dental visits. Our dentists will try to find out what triggers your grinding habits; there are multiple contributing factors including malocclusion, lack of sleep, stress, anxiety, and other disorders.
In some cases, a custom made night guard or a mouthguard can be fabricated for you; it is basically a transparent thin device you wear over the biting surfaces of your teeth when sleeping in order to protect your teeth from parafunctional habits.
